Spice Up Your Life

Taught at the Allston-Honan Library, April 2023

“There are thousands of spices used worldwide to flavor foods and beverages and chances are your kitchen cabinet only has a handful of them!

Explore the origin, use, and power of a dozen spices with nutrition educator Michelle Doyle at the Honan-Allston Branch Library.

Learn how you can bring out their full aroma and flavor with different cooking methods. Taste each spice alone, and mix up a blend of your favorites to bring home. You’ll leave this program knowing how to source and stock your spice cabinet to make your meals pop!”

This was an extremely fun class to put together! Participants tasted 15 different spices, ranging from roots and seeds to bark and flowers! We talked about the origins and uses of the spices, how to extract the best flavor, and what to think about when creating a personal spice blend. Everyone left with a small jar of their own spices!
